Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Commemorates #GED18 With Venues and Industry Players from over 70 Countries

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 June 2018 – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) team members gathered recently to ‘take one for the album’, as they joined venues and industry players around the world in celebrating Global Exhibitions Day 2018 (#GED18).

According to the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, “We are honoured to participate in the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry’s (UFI) #GED18 to celebrate the power of the exhibition industry and the positive impact it has on job creation, business growth, trade and investment, as well the economic stimulation it drives in various industry sectors.”

Elaborating on the Centre’s exhibition segment performance, Pryor, shared, “Since opening, we have successfully hosted 909 exhibitions which welcomed close to 19.4 million visitors. Last year alone, we held 59 exhibitions with an attendance of over 1.4 million visitors. Of this, 73% or 43 exhibitions were recurrent clients. Long-standing exhibitions like BookFest, HOMEDEC, ARCHIDEX and Star Education Fair continue to be the backbone of our yearly business calendar. All of these have grown significantly with us over the years, making consecutive appearances or hosting every edition with us since opening in June 2005. We consider them part of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre family and look forward to sharing many more memories together.”

Moving forward, the Centre’s expansion continues to progress and is due to be completed in mid-2019. The extension will provide an additional 11,000 sqm of flexible and multi-purpose space, which means more room to comfortably accommodate larger exhibitions and international association meetings, as well as concurrent events, allowing new and current clients to grow their activities and events significantly.

Now in its third year, #GED18, which took place on 6 June, puts a focus on the people and jobs in the exhibition industry and activities have been scheduled in over 70 countries around the world. For more information, visit http://www.ufi.org/industry-resources/global-exhibitions-day/.
