KUALA LUMPUR, 14 May 2018 – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre), Malaysia’s premier award-winning purpose-built facility and Asia’s only AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Gold Standard venue, is celebrating its 12th consecutive attendance at the Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings & Events (IMEX) Frankfurt 2018 by unveiling its latest news and precinct developments, that are adding even more value to clients across the board.

Speaking on the sidelines of IMEX Frankfurt 2018, the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, shared, “We are delighted to be back again this year! The Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) precinct continues to boom with numerous world-class projects being launched in 2018 and beyond.”

This includes five new hotels – the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, W Kuala Lumpur, Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur, citizen Kuala Lumpur and Pavilion Hotel by Banyan Tree – opening in the coming months, adding a further choice of 930 rooms to the existing 25,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the Centre.

Accessibility and connectivity around Kuala Lumpur also continues to improve, with the first line of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project fully operational and construction of the second line in full swing and expected to be complete by 2021.

In addition to Malaysia’s enhancing the business events proposition of Malaysia, “Our strategic location and precinct proposition remain a powerful differentiator. To enhance this and provide clients with a premier one-stop solution to streamline the events planning process and facilitate engagement with the precinct partners, we established the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCC BEA) last year. This is definitely one of our latest initiatives the European market should be looking to take advantage of,” added Pryor.

The KLCC BEA is a compelling business events proposition that offers a seamless and single point of first contact for Meeting Planners and Event Organisers. A powerful collective of the Centre, top-tier hotels, professional meeting planners, as well as shopping, dining, entertainment and transportation partners, who each customise their value-adds to the nature of any request.

Pryor explained, “We are delighted that Malaysia Airlines, which is part of the One World Alliance, is also now a valuable partner of the city centre alliance. We look forward to working closely with them to provide our clients with more value-adds.”

The Centre’s expansion is also taking shape and due to be completed in mid-2019. Enhancing its existing world-class infrastructure, the extension will provide over 11,000sqm of additional flexible and multi-purpose space enabling clients to comfortably grow their existing events and attract clients with larger exhibitions and international association meetings. This will also enhance the venue’s ability to accommodate more concurrent events, providing clients with more availability and options.

Alun Jones, General Manager, Exhibition Services of UBM which is one of the many recurrent clients of the Centre said, “UBM has brought two events to the Centre this year and the expansion will help us grow our events at the Centre further.”
